Membership Field Trip to the Grand Canyon on July 28th, 2012
On July 28, 2012, members of the Southern Utah Photography Guild went on a photo excursion to the Grand Canyon. We met at 2am to drive out to the North Rim in order to be there in time for sunrise. We hiked out to the lookout point with flashlights and got there just as it was getting light enough to get set up and be prepared for sunrise.
The Grand Canyon is amazing because of not only its expansive size, but also when you look at it up close. The group enjoyed capturing not only fantastic images of the canyon including sunrise shots and panoramas, but also macro shots of flowers, and other things up close. When you see the images of the Grand Canyon, you think it is a typical southwestern dessert area. But unless you've been there, you don't realize that the North Rim is actually a mature forest at 8500 feet. So there are lots of great trees. One group member would get out of the car at a view point and immediate turn away from the big hole to find a tree to capture.
